Good venue for live music is The Two Brewers, Sprinfield Road, Chelmsford.
Was there last night - 4 bands on, great atmosphere, cheap drinks and good music.

I live near Chelmsford and going to Uni there in September hopefully. As someone else said it's not London so dont expect it to be it's a good night out. Drop me a line if you are starting ARU in September, would be great to hear from you ! :)

que pasa is by far the best place to go in chelmo spec on a fri or sat nyt! cos £3 to get in but its worth it. edwards upstairs is pretty good too! dukes is great spec on a thurs nyt...hanki panki, cheese and gr8 old tunes plus the new stuf too, great for a dance and student priced drinks!

Dukes sucks if you go on the wrong night. Friday or Saturday nights then dukes is a BIG no no.
If your used to big london clubs dukes WILL suck but for essex its pretty dam good.
The best places to check out on a friday or saturday night would be edwards or que pasa.
If you want to head to dukes go on a monday or a thursday!
Ive lived just north of chelmsford all my life and was born in the dam town.
If you get bored of chelmsford I would recommend Colchester insted of southend... far cl

Oh my, cnt believe everyone is slating Dukes, i love it & they do fantastic student nights and if you get a dukes card you get in for free every night!
Edwards is good, Que Pasa is quite good too!
Chelmo isn't too far from Southend, where Mayhem and Talk are, and they are awesome! xx

ancient lights is well good! Dukes smells of feet but has good music, edwards is full of chavs, que pasa is great if u r single, and yates is full of old leery men so steer clear unless your into that! lol xx

....so you won't see any big bands apart from there. Restaurants aren't bad though if yourwilling to shell out a bit of cash.

I've lived in Chelmsford for 17 years 8 months and I can safely say its boring. Fair enough its got the shops but its nightlife is plain bad. Its a university town and it has no decent clubs decedence is ok but its not great. If your into films the odeons now £7.50 a ticket which is silly. Sports ok if you like cricket and non league football but the swimming pool/ice rink is an overcrowded dump. We've got no live music venues apart from hylands for the V festival.....(cont)

Nightlife in Chelmsford isn't the worst around by far, however, it does get old and this can happen fast. Bars are Edwards, Qua Pasa, Yates and (what used to be Lloyds but don't know the name now) stand right next to each other. 20's, Chicago's and Dukes are "clubs" in the loosest sense. Dukes literally stinks and may be closing down soon. Decadence backs off of Dukes and is the best place to go in Chelmsford if you love dance music. Few more bars scattered around incl. live jazz. Questions? =)
