Well I got my details of freshers week, like what is going on, and I remember last year I bought tickets and then never went to some nights again and also just some general advice for people.

Right I will go through what each night usually has on, and the kind of people that usually go there regularly after freshers. Please note freshers wont be quite like this with the people as lots of people will go first time, and think yeah not for me. Or yeah I love it here and go all year, it does happen.

Pop Tarts - this is your generic cheesy pop night stuff like Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys etc, sadly there are quite a few at University and around the city but fear not. Usually people that go here tend to be women, so for guys it can be seen as a pulling. Most of the fancy dress occurs on this night as well. But make the most of it, get leathered, you always have fun when you can barely stand or see!!

Freshers All Day BBQ - this is generally good for socialising with flat mates, people at your accommodation etc, as I believe they have their own varieties at Endcliffe and Tapton but dont quote me on that as I was at Ranmoor last year which is now in tattered ruins. But yeah, this is a nice Beach Themed party, very good night. Very club based, all the tunes you would expect to hear with beach related stuff, e.g. Miami - Will Smith, Sun Is Shining - Bob Marley vs Funkstar DeLuxe. Alternatively, you can just go BBQ which is free to get to, and around £5 a plate of food. Then if you arent interested in beach theme then you dont need to buy the ticket to go in the club part for it.

Population - this is the biggest flop at Sheffield Uni, last year they were offering 10 tickets for £10 compared to the price of freshers of £4.50 or so. This night will be good at Freshers, but you will soon realise of cheaper monday nights in town, which have better music, better venues and better offers. Embrace - £4 entry, £1 for bottles of Alcopop (V2s I think they are called) £1.50 for double vodka and mixer. Leadmill - £3 entry with NUS (uni card, which you get free from uni so dont need to buy) 60p for bottles of Carlsberg and Strongbow, and around 80p-£1.50 for alcopops and shots. Population is moderately cheesy again and is usually very empty after freshers.

Tuesday club - this is the best Drum and Bass night in the UK, many awards and much acclaim between DJs as the place to be. They get some quality artists play here, I am not a big fan of Drum and Bass, but they have had very well known artists like Pendulum play at their sister event Valve.

Roar - well I cant comment on this as last year this was called JUICE and although very cheesy it was very popular with girls and the Sports Societies, also many infamous fights happened in there. So be careful. Just looks the same but with animal fancy dress likely to occur. Cheesy music as I said.

Fuzz Club/Bleach - this is 2 rooms, Indie room and alternative room. They have a live Indie band play and just general alternative music in the other room. They usually get some crap bands play at Fuzz Club, but they have had people like Nine Black Alps and Dan Le Sac v Scroobius Pip, both of which I love, and for £4 it is a well valued close intimite gig.

Freshers Mania - well this is 3 venues, 3 different types of music, 3000 people. I didnt go last year but everyone that did said it wasnt really worth it. To be honest it will be a good way to pull/meet people, but they do it once, so it is more for the experience that night which I am sure you can make a good one if hammered.

Pop Tarts - as before.

Valve - this is like tuesday club, but louder and bigger. They give you ear plugs as you enter because it is a health hazard, you have been warned. I believe it goes from like 10/11 - 4/5, not sure on exact times but it goes on for ages. Well worth attending once. Have had artists like Pendulum here as said, I saw both Pendulum and Shy FX here for my brother's birthday, invited him and a few of his mates up. And we all had a great time. And I only really know 5 drum and bass artists. So it is more how much you drink and get into it rather than the music.

Well that is the week covered, I am happy to answer any questions. Bit of advice though. I spent £200 in freshers week and didnt get drunk every night, drinks are around £2 upwards at the union, unless they have offers on. Get wasted before you go. Not trolleyed but like going from tipsy to drunk because you will save yourself money. I used to drink enough to get quite drunk then take out like £15 with me. Try and save some money that week by following my advice, you will need that money later on.

Lol biggest advice, get most drink in you at your flat, saves you a hell of money.

And I paid for freshers ball but lost my ticket when drunk like a muppet. But most mates I had that went said it was a good night. I missed it and wasnt too bothered. It is formal wearing a suit or dress (for girls, not saying you are a cross dresser). Out of like 20 flat mates I had about 4-5 went, it depends on whether you want to go.

The rest of us just stayed in our flat and played Edward Ciderhands. A game where you cellotape bottles of cider to your hands (1-2 litre ones in each hand) and you cant take them off until you finish them, so that means, no toilet breaks until you finish. Always a laugh, but very very messy.
