Got a question for UCAS about Clearing?

Kat Dodsworth, one of yougo's online UCAS experts, is sparing an hour of her valuable time to be live in the forums to help take the sting out of the UCAS application and Clearing process at 3pm today.

Leave your questions on her wall on the UCAS profile page, or email the editors@yougofurther.co.uk and we'll put them in front of her later on.

Come back at 3pm and find out what Kat has to say. Alternatively, you can make friends with her and chat directly via the UCAS profile wall.

One of the four UCAS experts are live every day on yougo next week at 3pm.

Brilliant. Well our first question comes from Tine

I was just wondering about the next steps in my application process. I've sent the clearing passport to my uni of choice, but I have no idea what happens next, or if anything else is expected of me now... The accommodations are slipping away at Essex, and I’m getting anxious that I won't get a decent place to live while I study abroad...

Hi Tine. By sending your clearing passport you have accepted your place. It is now up to the university to let us at UCAS know so that we can send you your official UCAS confirmation letter.

It is up to the university to contact you about accomodation procedures so if you are unsure or anxious about getting a place in halls then give them a call.

Thanks Kat. Next let's hear from Jade with a rather strange question...

Do they allow small pets within Nicholson Halls?

Well UCAS does not have anything to do with organising accomodation as each university has very different procedures. My advice would be to contact them and ask the university what their policy is regarding "very small pets". Good luck with that Jade, sorry I couldn't be more help.

Yes good luck with Jade. Next is a question from Eva

I was approved for a students loan and they sent me a letter in which it states that they won't pay until the university confirm my place. My question is should I write to the university to ask them to send me something confirming my place and send to the Students Loan Company or they will ask the university alone?

Hello Eva. You should contact the Student Loans Company to discuss the procedure that they would like you to follow. Thanks for your question.

Chris is having a few problems paying his UCAS his application fee...

Does anyone know if there are alternative methods of paying for the UCAS application form? I am from Romania and the banks here do not issue Great Britain Ponds Credit Cards. What would you recommend?

Hi Chris. If you are paying your application fee from overseas then you can still pay with your credit card. You will simply be charged an equivalent amount in the currency that you use at the latest exchange rate. Please check with your bank or credit card provider if there is any fees that they apply for verseas transactions.

Our number is +44 (0) 781 468 0 468 if you wish to call us at all to pay your fee.

Steffi is looking for 2009 clearing vacancies

On UCAS they had a link for clearing 2009. Is that still available is there a different number to ring instead of 2008? I was going to take a year out instead of going in September with trying for clearing.

Hi Steffi. I think that you may be a bit confused between the links for clearing and apply.

Clearing vacancies are all the spare places that the universities have to fill this year in 2008 at the end of the application cycle i.e. when results are published. Only clearing vacancies for 2008 are on www.ucas.com

The link to apply 2009 whihc is currently on www.ucas.com is for those wishing to apply for courses and go through the whole application process for 2009. Clearing vacancies for 2009 will not be known or available until August 2009.

If you wish to reapply next year to go to university in September 2009, then you can do this now and go through the full procedure, or you can apply in July of next year to use clearing.

Thanks Steffi. I hope this helps and if there is anything that you wish to clarify please give us a call on 0871 468 0 468 and one of our advisors will be pleased to help you.
