Got a question for UCAS?

Craig Fish, one of yougo's online UCAS experts, will be live in the forums to help take the sting out of the UCAS application and Clearing process at 3pm.

Leave your questions on his wall on the UCAS profile page, or email the editors@yougofurther.co.uk and we'll put them in front of him later on.

Come back at 3pm and find out what Craig has to say. Alternatively, you can make friends with him and chat directly via the UCAS profile wall.

One of the four UCAS experts are live every day on yougo at 3pm.

Our first question comes from Alison who is a 2007 applicant

Can I go through Clearing even though I applied through UCAS last year and got a confirmed place at my Insurance choice uni? (I have been on a gap year)

Hello Alison. As you applied last year and have not applied this year then you are not eligible for this years clearing vacancies. To become eligible you would need to call your university that you are obliged to and and tell them that you no longer want your place. If they agree to release you from your agreement with them then you are free to reapply this year for clearing. You will need to complete a whole new application and pay the £15 application fee again. If you want to discuss this further, please call us on 0871 468 0 468.

Dee's used clearing to get her place but is wondering what will happen next.?

Recently applied to DMU through clearing and was given a verbal offer. I have sent them my clearing passport but they seem to be taking a long time in sending me a confirmation letter although they have sent me an accommodation pack and an induction pack. I need the confirmation letter ASAP in order for me to set up a student account and to sort out my accommodation, as I am worried that I will not get accommodated. Could you please tell me what you think is holding them up?

Hello. Once you send a university your clearing passport, you are formally accepting an offer. De Montfort should notify us and we will send you a confirmation letter in the post. If you have yet to receive this, please give us a call. We will be able to tell you if we have received the notification from DMU or whether you need to chase them up. Thanks Dee.

Debs says...

I have an unconditional place on the textile crafts at Huddersfield University, due to start this September, I was meant to start this course last year, but deferred entry. About a couple of months back I saw another course - fashion buying that seems more suitable for me career wise. I contacted the tutor, who said I had the marks to enter but would like me to do a maths summer course. I have now completed that course and have sent an email to the tutor. But I don't know how I would enrol on this new course come this September. I have heard about clearing but I don't think the course I want to do is available. I really want to start university this September as I am 22 now, but can’t get in touch with the tutor being it the summer holidays. I'm really stuck and don't know where to go, I would be grateful for any advice.

Hi Debs. Is the course you want to study at Huddersfield University or a different university. I would recommend that if it is, then you speak to the university directly about changing courses and what the procedure for you would be.

I'm afraid I can not advise you fully without a bit more information so it would be perhaps best for you to call us on 0871 468 0 468 and speak to one of our advisors who will point you in the right direction.

Hey Moon Light. Money worries a lot of students but unfortunately it is not something that UCAS get involved in. Perhaps your student union have something on their website or you could ocntact student support to see if they have any figures.

You could also use the yougo forums to try and find current Cardiff students who may be able to help you. Good luck Moon light!

Kan asks

I was wondering because I’m not going to my 1st choice anymore do I need to tell the student finance people that I’ve changed uni? I’ve written to the local authority but not sure if they've got it.

Again this is not something that UCAS deals with but it would be wise for you to let them know ASAP and call them to check that they have received your correspondence.
