Great well our first question comes from Maksim

If my student’s loan will be delayed could it affect on my course?

Hi Maksim. UCAS is not involved in the student finance process. Therefore if you have any concerns about when you will receive your student loan payments you should contact the student loans company and ask your university about any implications on your course if you do not receive your payments in time. Thanks Maksim

Next one of our regulars JB has been back in touch

I’ve gotten a course change from Kingston and I’ve accepted it as my firm once again. Does this mean that I am confirmed or am I supposed to wait for track to tell me I am unconditional? After I am confirmed... what exactly do I do?

Hello again JB. If you have been offered a course change, the university should put this through as a decision which will show on Track. When this happens and you accept it via Track as your unconditional firm, you will be sent an AS12 letter of confirmation in the post which will detail your next course of action. If you wish to discuss any of this further please feel free to give us a call and one of our customer service team will be happy to help. The number is 0871 468 0468. I hope that this helps JB.

Brilliant. Maca has quite a lengthy enquiry that he requires some help with...

I have a bit of a problem and was wondering if you could help me out. My A-level results where a lot lower then expected (personal issues) and I've been rejected from my deferred place up in Scotland. I have currently moved from London to Croatia as I'm taking a gap year and I'm not sure what to do. I was so sure that I wanted to study Architecture but now I'm even more confused and have started considering other design courses. Could you please advice me on whether or not I need to get involved with the whole clearing process or whether I should just reapply come November once I've thought about what course I would like to do. Also can I apply to uni's outside of England through UCAS, or would a completely new form be needed?

Hello Maca. Providing that you have paid the full £15 fee and do not hold an insurance place, you will have automatically been entered into clearing and sent a clearing passport. To use clearing, you search for vacancies and contact the universities that you are interested in. You then give them your application number so that they can view your application online and decide whether or not to make you an offer. You can only accept one offer and it is that offer that you send the clearing passport to. However as you are planning on deferring your entry until next year, some uni’s may prefer you to reapply next year rather than placing you through the clearing process. To use clearing you will need to be prepared to be on the phone to universities to find yourself a place. They will want to talk to you about why you want to study a particular course etc.

I can not advise you on whether you should wait and reapply in 2009 as that is entirely your decision. The UCAS scheme covers universities in the UK. For international schools you would have to contact them directly to find out what their application procedures are. Thanks for your question and good luck Maca.

thanks for the thorough response. Jo is really confused...

Okay am really confused! So I got accepted at my insurance offer at Lincoln and still haven't heard anything at all back from Sheffield Hallam, however I’ve now decided to go to Lincoln as it turns out I know loads of people going there and the course is just as good. But yeah anyway, I’ve rang and emailed Sheffield to tell them I'd like to be released and heard nothing back (yet again). I'm just a bit confused as to what I need to do now

Hello Jo. I’ll try my best to help you. When you selected Sheffield Hallam as your firm, you made them a serious agreement to go there. As they have yet to make you unsuccessful, your offer with them is still conditional. Because you made that agreement with them, you were absolutely correct to call them and ask them for their permission to take up your insurance place. However, it would seem that the university are taking their time to do this. I would recommend that you call them again and explain to them that you wish to take up your insurance place and please could they record the unsuccessful decision ASAP so that you can confirm your place with your insurance. Please be patient with them, all universities are extremely busy at the moment.
Good luck Jo

Jamie and his siter have both been confirmed but they've got fiddefernt confirmation letters, is this normal?

I have received my AS12 but it’s different to my twin sisters. She doesn’t have to do anything but I do what is going on? Mine is an AS12B

Hello there Jamie. There are four different versions of the AS12 letter. It’s nothing to worry about if yours is different to your sisters. As yours is an AS12B, you are expected to email the address stipulated in the letter with the details that the university have requested and let them know whether you intend to take up your place. Basically if read the letter very carefully and follow the instructions accordingly then you will be fine. Well done on getting your place Jamie.

Bademo has been in touch, what do you make of this?

I applied to the university directly but didn’t get in. I’ve been told that I can’t use clearing. Is this true?
