Great let's go. Sabiha dropped us a line yesterday and she's been nback in touch today I have already got a letter from the university saying that they have accepted me and my offer is unconditional but that was a visa letter so that I get my british visa for 5 years... but UCAS status hasn't showed that it is unconditional offer why?? Do you think that if I get my results they would reject me? Or can't they do that

Hi Sabiha, ok…so the letter that you received from the University is a letter in regards to your Visa. The reason that the UCAS Track system is not showing that your offer is Unconditional is because the University has not updated this on their system. If you do receive the desired results/conditions for your Firm offer, it is unlikely the University will make you Unsuccessful. Sabiha, the Universities are in their own right to make an applicant unsuccessful, but if an applicant achieves the results for their Firm choice, then a University will usually make that offer Unconditional and the place will be theirs’. Hope this helps Sabiha.

Princesschelle is getting concerned about clearing I got the UCAS letter and it said something about for you to be accepted a place officially in a university, that you must send off your clearing passport. Is that the whole letter that has place accepted in clearing as its title and you fill in the bottom slip part of the letter? I’m very confused

Hey Princesschelle, when you are in the Clearing process, in order to firmly accept a place at University, you do have to forward your Clearing Passport direct to the Institution that has offered you the place, and that you want to accept. It is the whole letter that you send, but remember, you only send this once you have spoken to a University and they have said that they want to make you an offer. Thanks Princesschelle.

Thanks Giles. Shona says I have contacted Strathclyde. I didn't meet the conditions of the offer they made, but they will still confirm my place with the results I have. Strathclyde was my firm choice, with my unconditional offer at stirling as my insurance. If strathclyde confirm my place, can I still decline my firm offer and choose to go with my insurance offer, or would I loose both offers completely?

Good question Shona. Some Universities do still make Unconditional offers to applicants; it is not uncommon for them to do this if the applicant didn’t quite meet the conditions. If Strathclyde do make your offer Unconditional, thus confirming your place, but you then wanted to take up the offer from Stirling, the only way to accept Stirling’s offer would be through Clearing. You would have to contact Strathclyde, ask them to remove you from their offer and put you in to clearing. They usually will action this request. I do have to stress though Shona that it would be up to Strathclyde whether they did this, as you would have effectively committed yourself to that University. Thanks for your question Shona and hope this advice helps.

Sonia is hoping to change her offer but doesn't want to lose her place with either university. What are her options? The problem is that the University of Leeds is asking me to 'quit' my offer at the University of Edinburgh before they can discuss about the chances of my initial offer being re-instated. I had previously contacted UCAS about this problem and I was told not to 'quit' my place at the Uni of Edinburgh unless I was sure that I am holding a place at another uni/Leeds. Thus, I am not willing to accept the condition of Leeds .Could you please help me out?

Hello Sonia, the initial advice you were given by UCAS was correct of not “quitting” your place at University, before speaking and agreeing a place with your new University (Leeds). At this time of year anyway, the only way to apply for a place at a different University would be through Clearing. Therefore, you would need to speak to Leeds, ask them if they would consider your application through Clearing. If they say they would, you have to fill in an on line application through our website, which is www.ucas.co.uk. Send that form through to UCAS. We will then send you a Clearing Passport that will have your Clearing number on. Then all you have to do is give your Clearing Number to Leeds, they can decide whether they would like to make you an offer, and if they do, just fill in the Clearing Passport, and forward that directly on to Leeds. I do advise you talk to someone at your University (Edinburgh) Sonia and explain to them you are thinking of transferring Universities and they will be able to give you advice on this and whether they are fine with you doing this. Thanks Sonia and hope this helps.

JB is wondering if UCAS can contact applicants by post rather than email? Is UCAS able to email an AS12 letter to me instead of posting it?? It would be much more convenient for me to receive it by email rather than post

Hi JB, unfortunately UCAS will be unable to email you the AS12 letter. This is because when an applicant’s Firm offer becomes Unconditional, an AS12 letter is automatically generated by our Computer system, and then sent out in the post. Sorry for the inconvenience, but this is the only way the AS12 letter is sent out to the applicant. Thanks JB.

To be honest with you sometimes something physical is better than an electronic copy anyway. Moving on Pup85 is in a pickle about confirmation of results I’m getting really confused about my results. I rang the UCAS Customer Services Unit today I’ve now been told the results for the CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education will be out on 14th August and they'll be sent direct to South East Essex College. Does this mean they'll be sent by UCAS or by CACHE? And should I ring up SEEC on the 14th to check if they have the results?

Afternoon Pup85, let’s clear up the confusion in regards to your results. The advice you were given was correct that the official results of your diploma will be sent to South East Essex College. On the 14th, you can call SEEC to see if they have obtained your results, but only if you want to. Do not worry Pup. UCAS will definitely forward the official results to SEEC. Hope this clears things up for you and thanks for your query.
