Katie Freestone works for Five News, on a part of the programme called Your News. This is a part of the programme where we air videos made by viewers about their own stories, local events or campaigns. Five News is hoping to find three or four students who would be interested in becoming occasional Your News reporters for the next 12 months. Katie would only require something to be made every two or three months, so it would be around four videos over the 12-month period. Katie would like to follow your different journeys as you leave school and head off to university or college, starting with the collection of their results. She would love to hear what you hoped for, what you got, where you will be heading and what you’ll be studying. It would then be great to hear from you a month or two down the line, telling Five how you’re adjusting to university life. Over the 12 months they’d love to hear about the different aspects of a First Year student. It would be great to know about money issues, perhaps from a student juggling a job along with their studies; maybe a student talking about adjusting to being away from home, coping with cooking, cleaning, washing etc on their own for the first time. It would also be good to hear about how their course is going, what lectures are like, the work load. This is a work in progress at the moment but they are keen to secure three or four students who would like to do this in time for results day. All filming can be done on camcorder, or they can supply a webcam if you have no filming equipment of their own. Footage doesn’t have to be edited. All that will be done at their end. Students would need a piece to camera and, where possible, some footage related to their story to help paint the picture. If you think this is something you might be interetsted in, they would love to hear from you as soon as possible.
