My Last Word...!

I think it was James Dean that said, "Dream as though you'll live forever: Live as though you'll die today."

In fact, I know it was James Dean that said it. There's a poster of him on my wall, with the quote printed underneath it.
And I? Think this is the most profound thing I've ever read.
Obviously, it inspired me enough to make me want a poster emblazoned with the quote above my mirror, so I can be re-inspired by him every morning.

But what does it really MEAN? Obviously we can't all live as though we'll die today...if we, any one of us, knew that the reaper was waiting for us at the end of the day, we'd max out all of our credit cards, spend the day enjoying the company of those we love, and not worrying about anything other than the obvious impending death.

Doing this in relation to Dean's quote, however, instead of in direct relation to death, would result in anarchy. No-one would go to work, or do anything worthwhile! (Except the really warm-hearted out there...)

So what DID he mean?

You see, it was all about desicions.
James Dean didn't mean we should all either a)spend our lives looking over our shoulders looking for a man with a sythe, or b)Live like there's no actual tomorrow, because in most cases, there WILL be a tomorrow.

No, what he meant was, don't make desicions lightly. Every day we make literally hundreds of tiny descions, seemingly unimportant, all of which contribute to the tiny little details which make up our day. Desicions such as what to have for breakfast, what to wear, which route to take to work.

These desicions should be made the same way you would make them if you had one day left to live. DON'T be too shy to wear red lipstick or high, high heels, DON'T feel guilty for eating the last slice of pizza, and DO feel confident enough to try new things, and broaden your horizons, try something new: because to be honest, there will always be something new.

Dream as if you'll live forever: Think of everything you'd ever like to do, to taste, to see, to hear, to climb, to experience... and then live those dreams as if you'll die today.

Don't worry about making wrong deicions. Worry about making them twice, thrice, every day of your life untill you realise there's no time left to try the other option.
