Money: Get ready for uni

It's that time of year. It's exciting for those students who are getting their A-level results and going off to uni in September. There is the excitement of meeting loads of new people, making new friends and living away from home for the first time.

Of course, there the downsides and they can be the financial implications of living away from home and paying for your degree. You need to make sure you have certain things done.

-    Filled out your loan and grant forms properly
-    Persuasively asked your parents for some extra cash
-    Start planning a budget
-    Get your CV and covering letter ready to look for jobs.

Filling out your loan and grant forms is extremely important, you need to make sure you get every extra piece of money you can get your hands on
Filling out your loan and grant forms is extremely important, you need to make sure you get every extra piece of money you can get your hands on. Remember that all universities have a ‘student hardship fund.’ This is accessible for anyone who can prove they are really suffering financially. Ask your student union about it when you get to uni.

Remember to ask your parents for a monthly donation (if they can afford it). Just explain about the credit crunch and how you can’t afford to get home to see them because petrol prices are so high (hopefully they’ll want to see you!).

Planning a budget is pretty important but equally important is sorting your CV before you get to uni so you can hook yourself up with a part-time job. There are details of how to do all this on the site. If you have any financial questions about uni life, feel free to email us on admin@wealthystudent.co.uk, anytime.

PS. You can get a free book on how to get through uni with as little debt as possible at wealthystudent.co.uk.
